Cliff Sadof, Entomology Department
This has been quite a year for the cicada killer. During the last week in July 2002, my students and I caught 25 of them at a local resident's house. Nobody got stung. This photo, taken by John Obermeyer, Entomology Department, is of one of the wasps we caught. Adult activity should subside by late August. For more information see E-63, SOLITARY BEES AND WASPS: CARPENTER BEE, CICADA KILLER AND MUD DAUBERS.
